Mom charged with driving drunk with kids in the car

On Sept. 18, Troy Police after pulling her over for driving erratically in excess of 90 mph on I-75. Turner, whose preliminary breath test showed a .23-percent blood alcohol content, later pleaded guilty to the offense.

Turner's 7-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old daughter of a friend were in the vehicle at the time. "We're scared," one of the girls said to a police officer in a video taken by the patrol vehicle's dashboard camera.

"The children told officers the driver was speeding and that they were going to jump out of the car because they didn't want to die," said Lt. Bob Redmond, public information officer for the Troy Police Department.

Shopper injured waiting to buy shoes

A shopper waiting in line at in on Dec. 23 was , according to .

“One kid was trampled and hurt his arm, maybe even broke it at Somerset," said Officer Andy Breidenich, public information officer for the Troy Police Department.

Man shoots self in 'posterior'

A 24-year-old Troy resident sustained injuries when he on Nov. 27, according to Troy Police.

The resident reported he had raised the shotgun over his head and placed it behind his back, pointed toward the ground. The gun was loaded with birdshot; however, the man "was unaware there was a round in the chamber," read the media release from Troy Police.

The man was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Troy man hits masked robber with shovel, gets shot

A 67-year-old Troy man was shot in both legs on Nov. 17 as he in front of his Troy home.

The masked man had demanded the victim's wife's jewelry, and when she refused, a struggle ensued.

"Her husband had exited the vehicle, armed himself with a short shovel and began striking the suspect with the shovel," Redmond said in the release. "The struggle continued out of the garage and to the front of the residence. The suspect told the husband, 'I got a gun – stop hitting me or I will shoot you.'"

Police said the husband continued to hit the man until the shovel of the handle broke, at which point the gunman shot the husband twice, striking him in each upper leg area.

After the shooting, the gunman ran to a vehicle parked in front of the residence and fled west toward Coolidge Highway.

Man sentenced for slaying cousin at Troy gas station

A Farmington Hills man was sentenced in Oakland County Circuit Court on Sept. 20 to life in prison for the .

Hayes Bacall, 51, in the shooting death of his nephew, Saif Jameel, 33, of Sylvan Lake. Bacall shot Jameel 10 times on July 2, 2010, inside Jameel's BP gas station, 2989 Crooks, before exiting the business and being taken into custody by officers with the . Prosecutors said during the trial that Bacall shot his cousin over a debt.

Bacall was convicted of premeditated first-degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm in commission of a felony. Premeditated first-degree murder carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole.

Troy Police avoid layoff of 10 officers

On June 21, the City of Troy issued as between the Troy Police Officers Association and the city.

On June 28, the association voted overwhelmingly to approve a negotiated concessionary contract and .

Troy Police discontinue, transfer Animal Control Services

On March 28, Troy City Council voted to approve the transfer of Animal Control Services from the Troy Police Department to the Oakland County Animal Control Services. Troy Police will still respond to emergency calls concerning dangerous animals.
