Troy Fire Department Rescues Roofer Suffering a Seizure

The man was taken from the roof 25 feet above the ground by use of a ladder truck.

The Troy Fire Department announced the rescue of a man suffering from a seizure on a roof 25 feet above the ground on Thursday morning.

The roofer was transported to a hospital in stable condition following the incident at 4815 Valley Vista in Troy.

Firefighters from Station 6 got the call at 10:30 a.m. They placed a ladder truck (Ladder 6) at the edge of the street and extended the aerial ladder to the roof and stabilized the man. Firefighters then placed the patient inside a basket litter and lowered him to the ground by sliding the litter down the ladder.

Firefighters followed the department policy, referred to as a tactical plan, which was just updated for this type of incident last year. Using a rope from the top, and a firefighter on the ladder beneath the litter to control the rate of descent, a patient in this type of situation can be brought down the ladder quickly and safely.

This particular rescue took approximately 20 minutes to complete.
