Troy High Student Turns Over 'Substantial' Amount of Found Money to Police

Talk about "cold hard cash." Rafael Yashinsky found money in the snow and decided to do the right thing.

On Dec. 13, 2013, Troy High School student Rafael Yashinsky, 15, was walking home after school and found an envelope sitting in the snow next to the sidewalk on the north end of Troy. The envelope contained a large sum of cash in large denominations.

Rafael immediately took the envelope and cash home to advise his parents and then brought the money to the Troy Police Department. Troy investigators are attempting to locate the owner and due to the substantial amount and large denominations, the Troy Police Department is providing limited information of the money at this time until the owner can be located.

Anyone with valid information regarding the owner and/or money is asked to call the Troy Police Department’s anonymous tip line at: (248)524-0777.
