Troy Police Beef Up Patrol for City Hall Protest and Council Meeting

Extra officers will be present inside and outside City Hall Monday afternoon and evening, say police.

As students and other members of the community Monday, the is preparing to keep the peace, said Lt. Robert Redmond, public information officer for the Troy Police Department.

"We will have officers inside and outside on extra patrol," Redmond said. "We will make sure we keep the peace."

Though the station is equipped with riot gear, Redmond said they anticipate a peaceful protest before and during the Troy City Council meeting.

"We let people demonstrate," he said, adding that the Troy Police Department hasn't arrested anyone during a protest in "a long time."

Redmond said officers will also be present in the meeting hall during the meeting.

"We'll have officers in the hall" and in the overflow rooms inside City Hall, he added.

The protest was scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.; the is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
