Patriot Day - National Day of Service and Remembrance at Hawk Woods Nature Center

Auburn Hills announces its first Patriot Day National Day of Service & Remembrance at Hawk Woods Nature Center. Designed as a way to honor Michigan veterans’ service, the day begins with a noon cookout followed by volunteer-led family activities, a nature hike and outdoor games. There is a late afternoon service project that involves helping staff tag and remove invasive buckthorn plants throughout the nature center. The evening includes a bonfire and community dinner. Hawk Woods also houses 5 new or renovated log cabins, with accommodations available for up to 30 overnight guests, 6 to a cabin. A pancake breakfast will be served for those who spend the night. All food and activities, including overnight accommodations at Hawk Woods, are free to Michigan veterans and their families. The event is intended for veterans, their families, and family members of deployed military personnel, but there are some volunteer slots for non-veterans. Participants need not live in Auburn Hills.
