Group Has 33% of Signatures Required to Recall Troy Mayor

The group has until June 15 to collect all 7,985 required valid signatures in order to trigger a recall election.

Recall Janice Daniels, a political action committee formed to recall embattled Troy Mayor Janice Daniels, announced today it has reached a major milestone, having collected more than 33 percent of the required 7,985 signatures in the past 3 1/2 weeks.

The group, formed by Troy residents and friends Matt Binkowski and John Kulesz, .

“It’s going quite well," Kulesz said. "We’re connecting with a lot of people. People are very enthusiastic about signing when they find out who we are and what we want.”

The recall team, made up of roughly 80 volunteers and signature collectors, has been canvassing neighborhoods in Troy, going door-to-door to talk with residents and collect signatures. Kulesz said most of the responses they receive are positive.

“The two most common reactions we get are 'Thank you for doing this' and 'Good luck,' ” Kulesz said, though he added, "I’ve been yelled at, people have screamed obscenities at me, but it doesn’t offend me. I’m not worried about that.”
