Rep. Martin Howrylak to Hold Property Tax Assessment Appeals Workshop

The event will take place Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Troy Community Center.

State Rep. Martin Howrylak, R-Troy, on Wednesday announced he will host a workshop for local homeowners on the property tax assessment and appeals process.

Howrylak will host the "How to Appeal your Property Tax Assessment Workshop," on Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Room 402 of the Troy Community Center (3179 Livernois Rd., Troy). Howrylak will be joined at the workshop by certified public accountant Laurie McGee.

"Appealing your property taxes can be a daunting process and many residents don't know where to start," Howrylak said through a press release. "The goal of this workshop is to provide local residents with the tools needed to simplify the appeals process."

Howrylak encourages residents who cannot attend to contact his office for detailed information about the appeals process.

According to information on the city's website, there are 27,222 residential properties in Troy as noted in the 2012 annual review prepared by City Assessor Leger A. (Nino) Licari.

The total average residential assessed value is $99,681 ($98,904 in 2011), which equates to an average market value of $199,362. The average residential taxable value for 2012 is $97,092 ($96,775 in 2011).

Howrylak is a freshman to the House. He defeated Democrat Mary Kerwin in the Nov. 2012 general election.
