Oakland County Republicans Issue Reward for Stolen Campaign Signs

There are no local reports of problems, but the party is serious about making violators accountable.

The Oakland County Republican Party recently issued a reward of $100 to $500 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone stealing Republican candidate campaign sings from yards and street corners.

The party initiated the reward late last month after supporters and volunteers reported "thousands of lawn signs being stolen," according to a Facebook Page established by the party. The reward will remain active through election day Nov. 6, and the amount of the reward will be determined by local party officials.

In Troy, a 62-year-old Troy man was recently caught taking legally-placed Recall Janice Daniels signs from a Troy street corner, though both Recall Janice Daniels and No Troy Recall have reported numerous sign thefts in recent weeks.

The reward from the Oakland County Republican Party sparked an interesting debate on the Facebook Page.

"I had my Romney-Ryan sign taken from my front lawn last Friday night and found it in the street three houses away. Of course, I live in the bastion of liberalism," lamented Chuck Batcheller, of Huntington Woods.

"I love that people are still making this a partisan issue as if only one party would reduce themselves to such a petty crime," wrote Jennifer Pennifer.
