Going Bowling: Michigan State Takes On Stanford in Rose Bowl

The 100th Rose Bowl Game will match the Michigan State Spartans, the champions from the Big Ten Conference, against the Stanford Cardinal, the champions of the Pac-12 Conference and the defending Rose Bowl champions, for the Rose Bowl Championship. 

Here's what you need to know to cheer on Spartans.

100th Rose Bowl

The 2014 Rose Bowl will be played Jan. 1 at the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena. The game begins 5 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN. The Cardinal are 4.5-point neutral-site favorites to win, according to bleacherreport.com.

  • Spartans: No. 4 Michigan State (12-1) will make its 24th all-time bowl appearance in a bowl game. This is the fifth time that the Spartans will play in "The Granddaddy of 'Em All," the Rose Bowl. Their last visit to Pasadena was in 1988 when they beat the University of Southern California (20-17). Michigan State has a 9-14 record in bowl games and is 3-1 in the Rose Bowl.
  • Cardinal: For the fifth time in the school's history, the No. 5 Cardinal (11-2) defended its conference championship and punched a return ticket to Pasadena. Stanford is  6-6-1 overall in the Rose Bowl.
