Vote Now: Troy Athlete of the Winter Season

Vote from a list of very deserving candidates on who should be named the Patch Athlete of the Season for the Troy area.

The Troy area high schools had a lot of athletes put up great performances this season. We want to hear from our readers which one they thought was the best.

Be sure to vote by 9 p.m. Friday, April 13. Final results will be posted on Monday, April 16.

James Young; Jr. Basketball – One of the most physically gifted and talented athletes in the state, Troy junior James Young had a tremendous season. He helped the Colts win the Oakland Activities Association White division with a 9-1 record in league play. When Troy lost two key players mid-season, He led the team in scoring with 25 points per game and averaged a double-double with 10 rebounds a game.  Young was named to the Associated Press Class A All-State First Team.

Troy Chen; Soph. Swimming – At the state finals, Troy sophomore Troy Chen took seventh place in the 200 IM with a time of 1:55.68 and tied for sixth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.36. for his performance at the 2012 county championship meet where he won the 100-yard butterfly (52.99) and finished in second place in the 200 IM.

James Nahikian; Sr. Hockey – The Troy senior was one of the top players in Oakland County this season. In the Oakland Activities Association White division, he was tied for the most goals in the league with 12. On the season, he had found the net 37 times. He was voted to the 2012 Division 1 All-State team by the Hockey Coaches Association.

Marcarius Coakley; Sr. Basketball – Athens senior Marcarius Coakley was set to put up some major numbers before Early in the season, he had 28 points against Troy, 25 against Ferndale, 39 against Carman-Ainsworth and 29 against Farmington. The injury put him out almost a month, and he wasn’t 100 percent for the rest of the season. Despite missing over three weeks, he still finished second in scoring for the Red Hawks. He average nearly 16 points per game and eight rebounds this season.

Ashley Moskal; Sr. Gymnastics - With a The co-captain of the Avondale-Athens squad lost to Grand Ledge’s Christine Wilson by a mere 0.025 point. At the meet, she scored a 9.8 on the floor exercise, which broke the 11-year-old record of 9.745. Earlier in the season, At the meet, she recorded personal bests in all events to help her team finish second with a season high 145.625 points.
