Elks Hoop Shoot at Boys & Girls Club of Troy

  • When: Monday, Dec. 2, 3 p.m.
  • Where: Boys & Girls Club of Troy (3670 John R Rd.)
  • What: Boys & Girls Club of Troy members and guests will have an opportunity to "compete, connect and succeed” with the Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Program, funded by the Elks National Foundation.

The Elks National Hoop Shoot is a free throw contest for youth ages 8-13. Volunteers from the Clawson-Troy Elks Lodge No. 2169 will be at the Club to conduct its local competition, the first step in the process of determining a national champion.  Participation in this local contest is free of charge.

Winning contestants on the local level move on to a district competition, and from there winners can advance through state, regional and national competitions.

One boy and one girl from each age group will win a national title at the finals in Springfield, MA. The six national champions have their names inscribed in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The Elks Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest highlights the Elks commitment to America’s youth, and is the largest and most visible youth activity sponsored by Elks Lodges.  More than 1.5 million youth participated in last year’s competition, which provides a character-building experience and teaches participants valuable lessons in respect and sportsmanship.

Parents or guardians of participants need to complete the Hoop Shoot registration form.  For more information, contact Elks Lodge No. 2169 Hoop Shoot director Ron Malendowski at (586) 703-7380.

MACPA Retirement Plan Protection Workshop

  • When: Tuesday, Dec. 3, 7:30 a.m.
  • Where: MSU Management Education Center (811 W. Square Lake Rd., Troy)
  • What: Designed specifically for Retirement Plan Sponsors, the breakfast workshop helps ensure that company filings are in compliance with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA). Provisions within ERISA allow the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to bring civil actions against Plan Sponsors and other fiduciaries that have insufficient filings or other violations. This workshop provides information about DOL’s increased scrutiny on retirement plans, and how companies can make certain their compliance efforts stay on track.
