Less than half an hour into Monday evening's Troy City Council meeting, Councilman Dane Slater was sworn in as Mayor Pro Tem and Acting Mayor of Troy. Slater replaces Councilwoman Maureen McGinnis, who was sworn in Friday as acting Mayor of Troy following the Tuesday recall of former mayor Janice Daniels. The role of Mayor Pro Tem rotates to a new council member every November, and Slater will now serve until Council appoints a replacement to serve as mayor until the Nov. 5, 2013 city election. Mayor Pro Tem Maureen McGinnis held up her hand and swore to faithfully perform the duties of the office of Acting Mayor of Troy in a brief ceremony at Troy City hall Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, an audience of residents, city employees and media watched and applauded. McGinnis replaces controversial former mayor Janice Daniels, who was recalled Tuesday. McGinnis will serve as acting Mayor of Troy until Monday evening's Troy City Council meeting, when Councilman Dane Slater, who is scheduled to take over as Mayor Pro Tem on Monday, is named acting Mayor of Troy. Thirteen new recall petitions were filed Monday against four Troy elected officials in addition to the three recall petitions already filed against controversial conservative Troy Mayor Janice Daniels, who took office Nov. 14. The 13 new petitions, filed by Daniels supporter and Troy resident Nicholas Cherasaro, include 10 petitions to recall Daniels and one petition each to recall Councilman Wade Fleming, Councilman Dane Slater and Mayor Pro Tem Maureen McGinnis.
