WITH VIDEO: More Than 1,000 Protest Wisconsin Governor's Appearance in Troy

Teachers, union members and others chanted, marched and yelled at people arriving for a Republican dinner Tuesday at the San Marino Club, where Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin was to be a speaker.

More than 1,000 protesters chanted, marched and yelled as attendees arrived Tuesday evening for a Republican dinner at the San Marino Club in Troy. The 9th Congressional District Republican committee's Southeast Michigan Ronald Reagan Memorial Dinner 2012 was the event, and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's appearance there was the draw for protesters. The crowd, estimated by Troy police to have reached about 1,300 people at one point, chanted "What do we want?" and an answering "Justice!" and "When do we want it?" "Now!" The protests, which started about 5 p.m. in advance of the 7 p.m. dinner program, stretched a whole block of Big Beaver Road. The Michigan chapter of the National Action Network headed by the Rev. Occupy Detroit Protesters Plan March Today

Group to meet at 4 p.m. at Spirit of Detroit statue in downtown Detroit.

Occupy Detroit, a grassroots group formed out of the national "Occupy Wall Street" movement, has planned a march in downtown Detroit today to coincide with other marches planned nationwide.  Participants will gather at 4 p.m. today at the Spirit of Detroit statue at Jefferson and Woodward and will march together to Grand Circus Park at 6 p.m., according to the group's website. A forum post on the website says the group plans to occupy the area "indefinitely." The forum poster says it will be a peaceful demonstration. The "Occupy" movements seek political, social and economic change. Tim: I can live with Liberals not appreciating my views. I am all for teachers, unions etc. I just firmly believ they should not be shielded from the same dilemas the tax payers that support them have to live with. They should be set up with retirement and health plans just like those in the private sectors have. I totally disagree with tax payer funded jobs having lobbyists in Washington or …   more ›
