Judge Denies Motion Requesting Mikes Jr. be Evaluated by Defense's Psychologists

The state Center for Forensic Psychiatry must first evaluate incarcerated inmates, ruled Judge William Bolle.

Judge William Bolle denied Wednesday morning a motion from Patrick Mikes Jr.'s defense attorney requesting that Mikes Jr. be allowed to meet with the defense's psychological experts for analysis. Mikes Jr. was not present at the hearing at 52-4 District Court in Troy. Mikes Jr., 21, is currently being held without bond at the Oakland County Jail after being charged with open murder on Aug. 9. He is accused of killing his father, 55-year-old Patrick Mikes Sr., on July 26. Defense attorney Dave Williams said Wednesday that they are "seeking to explore all of the ... defense options in this case," though they are not yet willing to request an independent psychological evaluation for Mikes Jr., who is reportedly receiving psychological …

In Searching for a Body, I Found Dedication and Integrity

A few things I learned while searching for – and nearly finding – the body of missing Troy man Patrick Mikes.

A few of the things I found in the rainy woods Thursday in Montrose Township: An old shoe, a faded beach towel, two dead deer, a gas cap, part of a snake, a golf ball and a toilet seat. I would also find out Friday that Troy Police Capt. Bob Redmond and I were unknowingly within 30 feet of finding the body believed to be that of Troy man Patrick Joseph Mikes on Thursday night, just before the day's search was called off due to the rain and dwindling daylight. Yes, I found many things in the woods on Thursday. But what I would take away from that 14-hour day searching side-by-side with police officers and firefighters is the knowledge that, for some people, a job isn't just a job – and this search was about so much more than finding …

Just to clarify, Nick: The 21-year-old son, Patrick J. Mikes Jr., allegedly stole and used his 16-year-old brother's credit card the day before Patrick Mikes Sr. was killed, according to police. I'm not sure if it was his own credit card or a card paid for by his father.   more ›

Police: Continuing Search for Troy Man's Body is 'Right Thing to Do'

Patrick Joseph Mikes, 55, has been missing since July 27; his son, 21-year-old Patrick Joseph Mikes Jr., has been charged with his murder.

Investigators may have ended their day-long search for the body of missing Troy man Patrick Joseph Mikes empty-handed Thursday evening, but Capt. Bob Redmond said it was well worth the effort, adding that officers plan to continue searching until Mikes’ body is recovered.  “This whole case isn’t about Patrick Mikes Jr.,” Redmond said. “This case is about Patrick Mikes Sr. “It is our obligation as police officers in the City of Troy to protect our citizens. We’re not going to quit looking till we find the body of Mr. Mikes. We don’t need to find the body to convict Patrick Mikes Jr. of killing his father. We need to find the body because it’s the right thing to do." Citizens joined roughly 60 police officers and firefighters from 17 …

Troy Police: Investigators Now Treating Missing Cyclist Case as Homicide

More than enough evidence was found in the basement of 55-year-old missing Troy cyclist Patrick Joseph Mikes' home for investigators to believe Mikes could not have survived the attack, Troy Police say.
