NORAD Tracks Santa Claus En Route to Michigan

Thanks to NORAD, children young and old can keep track of Santa Claus as he journeys around the world toward Michigan

For 364 days out of the year, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) spends its time tracking airplanes, missiles, space ships—anything flying near the United States and Canada.  But on Christmas Eve, a team of volunteers spends the night tracking a very special pilot: Santa Claus.  "We are the only organization that has the technology, the qualifications and the people to do it," NORAD said on its website. "NORAD tracks Santa, but only Santa knows his route, which means we cannot predict where and when he will arrive at your house."  Santa usually starts at the International Date Line in the Pacific Ocean and travels west, NORAD noticed, meaning he moves from the South Pacific to New Zealand, Australia, Asia, Africa and …

Santa Will Reply to Letters from Children in Troy

Thanks to a very special U.S. Postal Service program, "Santa" will reply to children who mail him their Christmas wish lists this holiday season.

Every year, millions of children sit down to make a wish list for Santa, hoping he will make all of their Christmas dreams come true. But what if Santa actually wrote back? The United States Postal Service is now accepting "Letters From Santa," a program that allows any person to play Santa by sending a letter signed by Saint Nick to any child. According to a postal service news release, "The 'Letters From Santa' program helps parents fulfill the dreams of their own children." Instructions to send a letter from Santa: TELL US: Do your children or children in your family plan on writing a letter to Santa this year?

Festive Crowd Helps Santa Light Up Troy City Hall (VIDEO)

The City held its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Wednesday evening.

With cups full of hot chocolate, tummies full of Timbits (courtesy of Troy's newest Tim Hortons) and hearts full of holiday cheer, dozens of bundled-up attendees crowded around the steps in front of Troy City Hall Wednesday evening to watch the Christmas lights come on for the first time this season. The festivities included Christmas carols sung by the Troy Athens High School Concert Choir, a performance by the Troy Colts Drumline and a special countdown to the tree lighting with Santa Claus himself. >>Have a photo or video from the tree lighting? When and Where to See Santa in Troy

From now through Christmas, here's where you can find the jolly old elf.

If you want to bring the kids out to meet Santa and share their holiday wish list this season, here's when and where he'll be available. Experience the tastes, sights, and sounds of holidays past at this year’s Old-Fashioned Christmas event from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Troy Historic Village. Tour the decorated Village Green and visit our historic buildings to hear traditional carols, try Christmas foods from long ago and around the world, see the many ways this holiday is celebrated and visit with Santa Claus. Special activities for children and delicious holiday treats! Park at Zion Church and ride the free shuttle bus to the Village. Fee: $5 adults; $3 seniors. Children under 12 FREE with paying adult.
