VIDEO: Karl Schmidt Sworn in as Troy School Board Trustee

The 17-year resident and business owner was elected in November.

Troy resident Karl Schmidt was sworn in as the newest member of the Troy School District Board of Education on Friday morning after winning the seat in the Nov. 8 election. Judy Holmes, secretary to the board, administered the oath. Schmidt, who owns a research firm in Troy, was accompanied by daughters Kristi, 18, and Chelsea, 21. Both daughters attended Troy schools and now at  Michigan State University. "I'm just really excited, and I feel really honored to represent the community of Troy," Schmidt said. "I've got a lot to learn, and we've got a lot to learn this year. "It's always exciting to have new people come onto the board," Superintendent Barbara Fowler said. League of Women Voters Host Candidate Forums

The League of Women Voters Troy Area will host a school board candidate forum tonight and a City Council and mayoral candidate forum on Tuesday night.

Five candidates vying for seats on the Troy School Board of Education will meet tonight for a candidate forum held by the League of Women Voters Troy Area. The forum, which will be held at 7 p.m. at the Troy Schools Services Building, 4420 Livernois, will run until 8:30 p.m. The 1 1/2-hour program will be webcast on video on demand with air times to be announced. Candidates running for the school board include incumbents Gary Hauff; M'Liz Malven; and Todd Miletti. New candidates include Troy businessman and university instructor Karl Schmidt; and engineer Christian Teodoridis. Troy Board of Education To Meet Tuesday Night

Troy Schools Board of Education members are expected to consider extending administrator contracts, revisions to code of conduct and budget considerations at Tuesday's meeting.

Board members with the Troy Schools Board of Education on Tuesday will give the first reading of proposed changes to the district’s code of conduct policy, consider administrator contracts and a resolution supporting the Troy Public Library Millage.  Board members are scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. in the district’s services building, 4420 Livernois.  Administrator contracts being considered for extension include the superintendent, assistant superintendent and additional administrative personnel contracts. Additional items on the school board’s agenda include an unspecified amendment to the 2010/2011 budget and a budget appropriations resolution for the 2011/2012 budget.
