Experience the tastes, sights, and sounds of holidays past at this year’s Old-Fashioned Christmas event from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Troy Historic Village. The jolly old elf will arrive this Friday. Here are the days and hours he'll be available this season.
Ho, ho, ho! Santa Claus is coming to town – or, more specifically, to The Somerset Collection in Troy. Here's what you need to know about Santa's arrival and extended visit to the upscale mall this season. Santa will arrive in Troy at 6:30 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 16 in front of Somerset Collection North between J Alexander’s and Capital Grille. There will be stilt walkers, jugglers, a caroling quartet and townspeople handing out roasted almonds to guests. At 7 p.m., the Dearborn Marching Band will begin marching and playing a holiday tune from Nordstrom’s to the center doors. Troy Police have arrested and charged one of two men in an armed robbery at The Somerset Collection over Memorial Day weekend. The incident occurred at 5:23 p.m. Sunday when Robertson and another suspect allegedly robbed a male and female shopper at gunpoint as they were leaving the True Religion store, according to a Troy Police media release. Kereim Jwron Robertson, 18, of Detroit was arrested and charged Tuesday with two counts of armed robbery and one count each of felony firearm, possession of a firearm in commission of a felony and resisting and obstructing a police officer. Troy Police confirmed Wednesday that a woman committed suicide Friday by jumping from an outdoor parking structure at The Somerset Collection in Troy. Out of respect for the woman's family and friends, no further information is being published at this time. A representative for The Somerset Collection said they do not wish to comment at this time and have referred all inquiries to the Troy Police Department.

Management and security told St. Clair Shores resident Mary Napoli that she and almost a dozen other moms could not breastfeed in public in the mall Sunday afternoon.
What was supposed to be a peaceful breastfeeding flash mob at The Somerset Collection Sunday afternoon was shut down after mall management and security confronted the event’s organizer, Mary Napoli. "They wouldn't let us do it," Napoli, of St. Clair Shores, said. Napoli had organized the event along with In Home Lactation Specialists, LLC. As one of 11 women who came to the event, Napoli had just sat down to start nursing her 1-year-old son when a security guard confronted her and told her she needed to stop. When Napoli said she didn't understand why they couldn't do it, the security guard said, "We do not allow flash mobs."
