Troy High School Rated 8th Best in Michigan

Top public high school rankings released Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report are based on student performance, college preparation and other factors.

Troy High School was rated the eighth best high school in Michigan in rankings released Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report. The school has a 19:1 student to teacher ratio, a higher-than-state-average percentage of seniors who took and passed AP exams, and above-state-average proficiency in math and reading, according to the U.S. News data. "We are proud to be recognized for our efforts to provide all students with the most rigorous college prep academic program possible," said Mark Dziatczak, principal at Troy High School. Tuberculosis Tests on the Way to Troy High Following Student Diagnosis

Students identified as having possible contact with the student diagnosed with TB will be tested next week.

The following information was provided in a press release. The Michigan Department of Community Health has confirmed a Troy High School student has tested positive for tuberculosis (TB). Oakland County’s Health Division is working with Troy Public Schools to identify any classmates who need to be tested. The Health Division will follow-up with all those identified for further evaluation and/or treatment. Troy High Students Urge President Obama to Act on Poverty

A documentary, titled 'Poverty: America's Untold Crisis' by 10th graders Frank Boudon and Jason Ji, will air on C-SPAN next month.

A documentary by Troy High School 10th graders Frank Boudon and Jason Ji, Poverty: America’s Untold Crisis, will air on C-SPAN next month. The eight-minute film, which explores the causes and effects of poverty, examines solutions, and urges President Barack Obama to take action, was a third-place winner in C-SPAN's national 2013 StudentCam competition. Boudon and Ji won $750 for their film. Their film will air on C-SPAN on April 2, 2013 at 6:50 a.m. ET. In Troy, C-SPAN is available through Wide Open West cable. The national competition, now in its ninth year, invites middle school (grades 6-8) and high school students (grades 9-12) to produce a five- to- eight minute documentary on a national policy issue.  This year, students were asked …

Troy, Athens Head into MHSAA Boys Basketball Playoffs

District championship up for grabs at Wednesday night doubleheader.

Updated: 3:18 p.m., Tuesday, March 5 The Troy High and Troy Athens High boys varsity basketball teams are scheduled to tip off their postseason this week, following Monday night's action. Both the Red Hawks and Colts earned a first-round bye in District 29 playoff action. Troy will host a doubleheader on Wednesday night. Troy High Instrumental Ensembles: Coming Soon to 'The Max'

Thursday concert at Orchestra Hall in Detroit will preview individual concerts at state and national competitions scheduled in March.

In a show which is sure to be remembered by parents, students, and school officials alike, Troy High School's Bands and Orchestras will perform at Midtown Detroit's Orchestra Hall this week. The Festival Concert gives the ensembles, made up of over 400 students, the opportunity to perform at the home of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The Campus, Concert and Symphonic bands will perform musical works ranging from John Phillip Sousa to Malcolm Arnold.  The Freshmen, Concert and Symphonic Orchestras will present music by Howard Hanson, Peter I. Tchaikovsky, Amadeus Mozart, and Antonin Dvorak among others. Eight students in the Troy School District have been named U.S. Presidential Scholar Candidates, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students. These students were selected based on their exceptional scholarship, leadership, service to the community and/or talent in the visual, creative and performing arts. “We are very proud to have so many students named as U.S. Presidential Scholar Candidates,” said Troy School District Superintendent Barbara A. Fowler. “This level of achievement is outstanding and these students should be commended for their dedication and commitment to their educational goals. The Michigan High School Athletic Association is hosting its second annual Battle of the Fans.

There's no doubt that high school students know how to support their sports teams. But, does Troy have the best fan section around?  Now you've got a chance to prove it. The Michigan High School Athletic Association is hosting its second annual Battle of the Fans and is ready to highlight the best student cheering sections across Michigan. To enter, follow these rules: The MHSAA Student Advisory Council will choose five finalists. MHSAA officials will visit each school on a Friday game night to see the fan section in person.
