ReplyDon’t know if Grand Sakwa really wanted the project or reluctantly agreed to it; I only heard their lawyer’s objections during the hearings in Fall 2011. And the “this project has been ten years in the planning” rhetoric. And saw and felt the intimidation at council meetings, where all the proponents lined up silently across the room.
The other issues I raised are separate issues, but examples of where the Left uses legal means to achieve their purposes.
Dave Henderson said he would support a separate bus station in a different location. That’s why I suggested maybe Magna could donate the land for it in their own commercial / light industrial backyard. It’s not “multi-modal” but would serve the same function.
The only thing new I learned from reading this thread is that the “landlord receives a percentage of the gross sales over a set amount, as additional rent.”
I already knew how partisan and petty a few of you are. Boycotts hurt the little people more than the owners, as some of you stated. But that doesn’t stop you from writing threatening letters to try to intimidate people. Or making phone calls to editors to try to silence your political opponents…

ReplyFor those who hold tolerance as a high virtue, some of you are remarkably intolerant of those who disagree with you. Not everyone in Troy wanted this controversial transit center. The shopping center lawyer testified against it during the hearings as did many others. The lower court ruled in the city’s favor, the “right” opinion. The appeals court overturned it, the “wrong” opinion.
The “greedy” business owner is just trying to protect his investment. Is it wrong for him to sue to recover damages? Some customers may be scared away by having a bus station / train station behind the stores where they shop. People generally want these things which are good for the community, but not in their own back yard. Your boycott will add further threats and financial losses to the injury already sustained by the owner.
(Not saying they are doing the right thing, just saying you are doing something I wouldn’t be inclined to do. Not for something as optional as spending the next generation’s money on unnecessary infrastructure.)
It certainly costs the taxpayers something to patrol an empty building with elevators on nights and weekends, contrary to what Dane Slater said in the mayoral debates. Police services aren’t free.

Gov. Snyder doesn't live, work or shop here. He didn't visit the sites, take pictures, or consider alternatives like I did.
I'll continue to shop at all those stores regardless of the outcome. Most of the other corporate citizens advocating for this were not going to have it in their backyard, scaring away some of their customers.
They could have hired shuttle bus drivers from KMart's vacant HQ if the train traffic ever justified it. For far less money than the annual interest payments on the footbridge alone.
Council could have located a bus station near Magna's HQ at Big Beaver and I-75 if they wanted it so bad, as Dave Henderson proposed.
That project was and is a boondoggle. Sorry to disagree with you on this one, Ellen.

Boycotting the stores will not hurt the developer. They're paying rent to Grand Sakwa.

ReplyI’ve received great care in both hospital systems. Sometimes there are crabby or incompetent caregivers, but a lot depends on how you treat those who are caring for you. Generally people are doing their best.
I’ve also heard good things about Crittenton’s birthing centers and got good care for my depression at St. Joseph Mercy in Pontiac.

The Metro Detroit area is blessed with many good hospitals.

Sometimes you can see blessings in hindsight; God’s faithfulness in bringing you through difficult times. He is faithful even if He chooses not to heal you on earth.

ReplyThat’s an interesting spin. Can’t comment on Grand Sakwa’s other litigation, but maybe they were concerned about shopping center customers worried about the empty transit center building on nights and weekends when no buses are running as expressed during the debate in fall 2011?
The litigious Left is not immune from using the full extent of the law to its advantage – remember the biased petitions for the mayoral recall? Half the objection to Mayor Daniels was her opposition to the “free money” for the transit center.
Or the recent negative campaigning against Doug Tietz, who also opposed the transit center. Surely someone at KTS remembers the EIGHT blog posts linking him to Republicans who are too partisan to govern Troy. Right before the May special election… Hmm.
Never mind the heavy subsidies needed for passenger train travel and ignoring thoughtful alternatives put forward by residents who live, shop and ride bicycles in the neighborhoods affected by the quarter mile move of the station: a multi-million dollar boondoggle that does not improve service, although it does provide a heated waiting room and more parking spaces.

I hope it works out OK, but Troy’s new transit center is expensive unnecessary infrastructure that piles debt on the next generation of American taxpayers.

You’ve got to be kidding, JD. This “innocent comment” from KTS, the author of EIGHT previous blog posts attacking Doug Tietz, linking him with other conservatives to sway the outcome of an election?
The same people who baited me on the Patch recently, again twisting my words on their left-wing blog?
Who tried to sabotage a politically and religiously neutral club I’m involved with? Many good people they don’t even know by their writing have worked hard to get this club off the ground. The club principles and past presentations are posted on the internet for all to see. People from all political perspectives agree with the cultural objectives of the USA Melting Pot club.
I’m still a bit raw from their latest personal attacks on me, getting their friends to call the Patch editor to complain about me telling the truth about their team’s ghost-written letters to the editor.
And then there’s Male Durrish, who probably took down his own comment with his pine-tree logo later to make me look foolish, like I’m talking to myself.
You wouldn’t know about that, never having taken down a comment before. Or would you? I seem to recall you changing your mind about asking me a question once and taking down a comment.
You contribute mostly positive comments and are not nearly as bad as the others, but please, spare me the mild questions expecting me to stay current and forget past offenses. Sorry, but my memory isn’t that bad.

These are old tired arguments; mine opposing the transit center have already been “debunked” many times so I won’t make them again.
I put more time and effort into investigating alternatives to this expensive white elephant than anyone else I know. You can go back and read them and look at the site pictures if you want. The links are posted above for any who are interested.
