Industrial Fire in Troy Sends 1 to the Hospital

A fire early Tuesday morning in the collection system on West Maple was confined and put out within one hour.

A structure fire at an industrial building in Troy ended with one person being sent to the hospital but no other injuries, according to a Troy Fire Department release issued Tuesday.

At 2:56 a.m. Tuesday, Fire Stations 3 and 4 were sent to the scene in the collection system at 690 West Maple, on the corner of Heide Street. The building houses Form Tech Industries, which conducts high-speed precision hot forming and cold-forged shaft technology, among other processes, according to the TFD.

Firefighters immediately found smoke coming from the building and determined the fire to be in the building’s dust collection and filtering system. The fire was successfully confined and extinguished with water within one hour.

Once the fire was extinguished, the building was ventilated of smoke and returned to employees. All employees were accounted for.

One employee, however, was treated by EMS for smoke inhalation and subsequently transported to Beaumont Royal Oak Hospital for evaluation of respiratory difficulties. His name, age and condition are unknown.
