Street Fight and More Reported to Troy Police

The following information about police incidents is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media releases.

Altercations/disorderly conduct

2700 block of Axtel, June 29, 1:25 p.m.: Troy Officers were dispatched to the location for several people fighting in the street. Two Bloomfield hills residents, a Birmingham resident and a Woodland Hills resident were arguing because one person was observed taking photos of a racing boat parked in the parking lot. There was a disagreement over the photos being taken. The case will be followed up by the City Attorney's office for possible charges.

Breaking and entries

Speedy Auto Service, 3939 Rochester Rd., June 30, 12:46 a.m.: Officers responded to Speedy Auto for a burglar alarm. When officers arrived they discovered a service door panel missing. Inside, the business had been ransacked and it appeared the cash register drawer was missing with $1,500 cash inside. A witness stated she saw an old white pick-up truck leaving the area. 

Credit, check, identity theft, other fraud

Oakland Mall, 300 W. 14 Mile Rd., June 21-22: A Grosse Pointe Woods resident reported her credit card had been used at Oakland Mall in several stores totaling charges $886.53.

3000 block of Highland, June 6-28, 3:50 p.m. to 2:40 p.m.: Troy resident reported Chase Bank contacted him to inform that someone was trying to use his credit card at a Target in Stroudsburg, PA. Another charge was attempted at a Walmart in Kentucky. 

900 block of Milverton, April 1, 2012 to June 27, 12:03 p.m.: A Troy resident reported he was receiving collection calls from his credit card company. The resident thought he had closed this credit card, however was advised by the collection agency there was $8,000 outstanding in charges to the account. Resident stated he did not make these charges.

2000 block of Santia Dr., June 23, 12:47 p.m.: A Troy resident reported she was contacted by Office Max asking her if she ordered a camera to be delivered to a Detroit address. The resident advised OfficeMax she did not order the camera. 

Driving under influence of alcohol/drugs 

E. Big Beaver and Dequindre, June 27, 1:36 a.m.: Troy officer stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver a 26-year-old Chesterfield resident was observed to have glassy eyes and a strong odor of intoxicants. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .21 percent.  

E. Big Beaver and Rochester Rd., June 27, 10:39 p.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle driving without headlights. The driver a 23-year-old Canal Winchester, OH, resident was observed with a strong odor of intoxicants and bloodshot eyes. The driver admitted to drinking and failed sobrieties. The driver was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .11 percent. 

Crooks and W. Big Beaver Rd., June 29, 10:53 p.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle after the driver was observed asleep at the wheel in the intersection. The driver a 31-year-old Macomb Twp. resident had slurred speech and could barely stand on his feet. The driver failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for operating under the presence of drugs. A blood test was performed with charges pending. 

Rochester Rd. and E. Big Beaver, June 30, 2:26 a.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle for a no turn on red violation. The driver, a 30-year-old Grand Rapids resident, smelled of intoxicants and had slurred speech. The driver failed sobriety tests and was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .13 percent. The passengers in the vehicle were also too intoxicated to drive and had to contact people for rides home. 

E. Fourteen Mile Rd. & Dequindre Rd., June 30, 4:40 a.m.: Troy Officers observed a vehicle swerving out of its lane. Officer noted a strong odor of intoxicants and slurred speech from the driver, a 26-year-old Novi resident. The driver admitted he had been drinking earlier in the evening. The driver failed sobriety tests and was arrested for operating while intoxicated (second offense). Breath test results were .10 percent.

Home invasions

1000 block of Wattles, June 28, 11:21 p.m.: Resident advised that two males came to her house claiming they were from DTE energy and needed to perform work on her home. The resident allowed the suspects inside where they then required payment. She paid them from her safe in her bedroom. When the suspect left the home resident found her safe had been ransacked and $1,500 missing. Suspects were driving white vehicles with DTE decals. 

38000 block of Dequindre, June 14-25, 12 noon to 12:30 p.m.: Troy officers responded to a complainant of a home invasion on a vacant home. The realtor for the property advised she was scheduled to show the home and when she entered the residence she discovered the rear pedestrian door had been pried open. The refrigerator was stolen and the power was off in the home. Two inches of water was discovered in the basement as well as the washer/dryer and sump pump had also been stolen. 

Larcenies

2000 block of Coolidge, November 12, 2012 to June 24, 2012, 10 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Resident reports his camping gear was stolen out of his storage locker.

Larcenies from autos

2000 block of Milverton, June 25-26, 5 p.m. to 6:35 a.m.: Complainant stated her 2007 Toyota was parked in the driveway overnight. She discovered in the morning the passenger’s side window smashed out and her Coach purse was stolen with checks and credit cards inside. 

1800 block of Kirts, June 26, 12:15 to 4 a.m.: Complainant stated all four tires on the vehicle were stolen and was left on blocks. The rear passenger window was smashed out.

2000 block of Prescott, June 25-26, 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.: Resident advised her unlock vehicle was entered and $15 cash was stolen. 

2000 block of Brinston,  June 25-26, 11 p.m. to 9 a.m.: Resident advised his 2008 Audi’s passenger side window was smashed out and $40 cash was stolen from the console.

2000 block of Newburgh,  June 25-26, 7 p.m. to 10 a.m.: Resident advised his vehicle - a 2012 Chevy was parked in the street overnight and was broken into. The driver’s side window was smashed and his shoes were stolen. 

2000 block of Milverton, June 25, 6:00 p.m. to 10:45 a.m.: Resident reports her vehicle was unlocked in driveway overnight and her MacBook, iPod Touch and leather briefcase were stolen.  

2000 Block of Milburn, June 26, 12 noon to 1 p.m.: Resident stated he parked his 2013 Audi in the driveway, when he came out to the car he found the passenger window smashed out and his MacBook Air, iPod Touch and iPad mini and a diamond cross necklace were stolen. 

Malicious destruction of property

Excel Beauty School, 6044 Rochester Rd., June 23-24, 5 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.: Complainant reports graffiti was spray painted on the brick wall of the business.

2000 block of E. Big Beaver, June 27, 9:30 to 9:45 a.m.: Complainant stated he vehicle was “keyed” while parked in the parking lot. The scratch is about 6-8 inches in length.

Minors and alcohol

Dequindre and Wagon Wheel, June 28, 3:02 a.m.: Troy officers observed two vehicles racing and speeding down Dequindre. The driver of the first vehicle, a 19-year-old Waterford resident had a strong odor of intoxicants. The driver failed sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for operating a vehicle with blood-alcohol content (under 21 years of age). Breath test results were .07 percent. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a citation for reckless driving.

I-75 and W. Fourteen Mile Rd., June 29, 1:45 a.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle on I-75 after observing the vehicle unable to maintain its lane and crossing lane markers. The driver a 19-year-old Shelby Twp. resident smelled of intoxicants, marijuana and had slurred speech. The driver failed sobriety tests and had a bag of marijuana in his pocket. The passenger a 19-year-old Shelby Twp. resident was also intoxicated. The driver was arrested for operating a vehicle with blood-alcohol content (under 21 years of age) and marijuana possession. Breath test results were .09 percent. The passenger was cited for minor in possession.

Retail fraud 

Walmart, 2001 W. Maple Rd., June 24, 3:10 p.m.: Loss prevention officers advised a 19-year-old Royal Oak resident was observed concealing merchandise in a purse. The suspect then exited the store and was stopped by loss prevention. Total amount stolen $67.34. 

Macy’s, 500 W. Fourteen Mile Rd., June 26, 4:20 p.m.: Loss prevention officers advised an 18-year-old Royal Oak resident was observed selecting items and entering the fitting room. The suspect came out of the fitting room carrying only a few items. The suspect exited the store and was stopped by loss prevention who recovered items from her purse. The clothing and earrings that were stolen totaled $70.98. 

JCPenney, 700 W. Fourteen Mile Rd., June 26, 8:29 p.m.: Loss prevention officers advised an 18-year-old Sterling Heights resident selected a pair of shoes; took them out of the box and put them on his feet and left the store. Loss prevention officers stopped the suspect with a total value of the shoes being $60.

Kohl’s, 500 John R Rd., June 27, 5:12 p.m.: Kohl’s loss prevention advised a 52-year-old Warren resident concealed merchandise in her purse and exited the store. Loss prevention stopped the suspect and recovered the merchandise worth $258.00.

Nordstrom, 2850 W. Big Beaver Rd., June 28, 2:30 p.m.: Nordstrom loss prevention officers advised a known retail fraud suspect was in the store. The suspect a 19-year-old Commerce resident was observed taking items in the fitting room. When the loss prevention officers checked the fitting room, items were missing. The suspect exited the store and was stopped by loss prevention, the merchandise was found in the suspect’s purse. The value of stolen merchandise was $56. The suspect was arrested for retail fraud.  

Hallmark Gold Crown, 65 E. Long Lake Rd., June 28, 5:16 p.m.: Hallmark store employee contacted police when she observed a 42-year-old Troy resident steal a picture frame from the store. The suspect concealed the frame in her purse. The suspect was located in the Kroger store and told officers she was going to go back to Hallmark and pay for it. The suspect was arrested for retail fraud. The value of the frame was $8.48. 

JCPenney, 700 W. Fourteen Mile Rd., June 30, 5:09 p.m.: JCPenney loss Prevention detained a 22-year-old Warren male for retail fraud. The subject stole clothing and cologne; he concealed the clothes by wearing them and put the cologne in his pocket. The subject was detained after he exited the store. The value of the merchandise stolen was $111.00. The subject was arrested for retail fraud.
