Mayor Daniels Blames Media for Recall Success; Residents Respond to News

Troy residents voted to oust the mayor from her position on Tuesday by a 52 percent majority vote.

Ousted Troy Mayor Janice Daniels told radio personality Charlie Langton on his morning radio show Wednesday that the only thing she regretted from the past year "is that there isn't a balanced media."

Daniels was recalled Tuesday when 52 percent of voters chose "yes" on the ballot.

Daniels, who has not returned phone calls from Patch seeking comment on her recall, told the AM 1270 audience: "We don’t have a media that’s fair. It’s been very biased against me since the beginning. ... The people deserve balance in the media. That’s what I regret is that we don’t have a balanced media."

At the end of the interview, Daniels told Langton: "I’m not going to go away, and I’m not going to move out of town."

Once the election is certified, Daniels will officially be removed from office and Mayor Pro Tem Maureen McGinnis will serve as mayor until the next council meeting, when Councilman Dane Slater will take over as Mayor Pro Tem for the next year.

“We’re ready to start the next chapter in the City of Troy," McGinnis said early Wednesday morning as election results continued to trickle in for Troy.

“We’re going to put all this stuff behind us and start thinking about the citizens instead of the ideology of Mayor Daniels," added Councilman Jim Campbell, who has been an outspoken supporter of the recall.

Meanwhile, residents and onlookers across the internet took to Twitter and Facebook to comment on the recall's success.

"Thank God is true!!!" wrote Camille Maniscalco-Dery on the Recall Janice Daniels Facebook page. "What a nut bag she is."
